On May 12, reports of another mysterious carcass washing up on a beach on the Indonesian Island of Seram emerged, drawing attention from locals and online. A dramatic video shows the bloody carcass in shallow water.
A spokesman for the country's Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) told reporters that researchers will take samples from the animal to identify its species, but its size suggests it is a whale.
The animal was measured at 15 meters (49 feet), dispelling the early beliefs among locals that it may be a squid, which only reach five meters (16.5 feet).
An unidentified creature like this is often known as a "globster" and they've been washing up for years.
While some people think it might be new species, experts aren't convinced.
Lucy Babey, head of science and conservation for the animal charity Orca, says it's definitely the carcass of a dead animal - probably a whale.
"It's definitely a very decomposed sea creature in the later stages of decomposition," she tells Newsbeat.
